Fractional BI · Analytics · FP&A Leadership
22 years bridging corporate finance and enterprise analytics. From IPO preparation to $1B ARR data strategy. I help organizations build the data foundation that makes everything else possible.
Tafeen Advisory is a fractional BI, analytics, and FP&A advisory firm based in New Jersey that helps SaaS and mid-market companies build executive reporting infrastructure, KPI governance frameworks, and decision-support systems. Founded by Rob Tafeen, a 22-year enterprise analytics veteran with an active CPA license, an MBA, and a Wharton Business Analytics certificate, the firm specializes in bridging the gap between finance teams and data teams at organizations ranging from $10M to $500M in revenue. Rob has been recognized three consecutive years as an OnCon Top 50 Data & Analytics Professional and previously served as Senior Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics at a publicly traded SaaS company, where he led a team supporting $1B in annual recurring revenue and over 1,000 data users across 8+ departments.
About
I spent over two decades at one company, watching it grow from a 300-person software startup to a 3,000-person global enterprise. That journey shaped everything about how I work.
I started in accounting, covering AR, AP, general ledger, revenue recognition, and FP&A, and was deeply involved in the company's IPO process before eventually building and leading its entire business intelligence and analytics function. By the time I left as Senior Director, I had helped transform a fragmented data environment into a unified enterprise platform supporting $1B in annual recurring revenue, over 1,000 data users, and decisions made in the C-suite every day.
What makes my background unusual is the combination. Most data leaders came up through technology or data science. Most finance leaders came up through accounting firms. I came up through both, inside the same business, over 20 years. That means I understand the numbers behind the data and the data behind the numbers. I hold an MBA and CPA, and have been recognized three times as an OnCon Top 50 Data and Analytics Professional.
Today, through Tafeen Advisory, I bring that same cross-functional lens to SaaS and mid-market companies as a fractional leader. Whether you need senior full-time leadership or fractional, project-based engagements, I deliver focused, high-impact outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions
A fractional analytics leader provides senior-level BI and data strategy leadership to companies on a part-time or project basis. Instead of hiring a full-time VP or Director of Analytics, organizations engage a fractional leader to build reporting infrastructure, design KPI frameworks, implement data governance programs, and train teams. Fractional leaders typically work 20 to 60 hours per month and bring 15 or more years of experience at a fraction of the cost of a full-time executive hire.
A fractional BI consultant brings the same strategic experience as a full-time analytics director but works on a flexible, part-time basis. The key differences are cost (typically 30 to 50 percent less than a full-time salary plus benefits), speed (a fractional leader can start within days rather than months of recruiting), and breadth of experience (fractional leaders have usually built analytics functions at multiple companies across industries). The trade-off is that a fractional leader divides time across clients rather than being embedded full-time in one organization.
Tafeen Advisory primarily works with SaaS and mid-market companies that have outgrown their initial reporting setup but are not yet ready for (or cannot justify) a full-time senior analytics hire. Typical clients range from $10M to $500M in revenue and have 100 to 3,000 employees. Common scenarios include companies preparing for board reporting upgrades, organizations struggling with conflicting metrics across departments, and finance teams that need better integration with their data and analytics functions.
Most engagements run 3 to 12 months depending on scope. A focused project like designing a KPI governance framework or building an executive dashboard suite may take 8 to 12 weeks. A broader engagement like developing a multi-year data strategy and overseeing its initial implementation typically runs 6 to 12 months. All engagements begin with a diagnostic phase to understand the current state before recommending a scope and timeline.
A KPI governance framework is a structured system that defines how an organization selects, measures, maintains, and evolves its key performance indicators. It establishes clear ownership for each metric, standardizes definitions so every department calculates numbers the same way, sets review cadences for updating or retiring metrics, and creates escalation paths for data quality issues. Without KPI governance, organizations typically end up with conflicting numbers across departments, eroding executive trust in reporting.
Common signs that executive reporting needs improvement include: leadership asks for data but does not use the dashboards that already exist, different departments present conflicting numbers for the same metric, analysts spend most of their time building ad hoc reports rather than doing analysis, board packages are assembled manually from multiple sources each month, and no one in the organization can clearly define how key metrics like ARR, churn, or customer acquisition cost are calculated. Tafeen Advisory offers a free Executive Reporting Maturity Assessment that evaluates these issues across six dimensions.
Tafeen Advisory is platform-agnostic but has deep expertise in Microsoft Power BI, Azure data services, SQL Server, and the modern cloud data stack including Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran. The firm also works with Tableau, Looker, and other BI platforms depending on the client's existing infrastructure. Tool selection is always driven by business requirements, team capabilities, and total cost of ownership rather than vendor preference.
An executive reporting maturity assessment is a structured evaluation that measures how well an organization's reporting environment supports executive decision-making. Tafeen Advisory's free assessment evaluates six dimensions: business alignment and metric clarity, data trust and governance, reporting efficiency and infrastructure, insight quality and decision usefulness, operating model and ownership, and adoption and continuous improvement. After completing the 24-question assessment, participants receive a personalized results summary with their maturity level, strongest areas, biggest gaps, and prioritized next steps.
